Always long tail keywords are better than short tail keywords because it is less competitive and achieved higher search ranking easily. And as you know Google search engine hit that website having higher ranking with short tail keywords.

I think its easier to rank for long tail phrasses. Like various 3 or even 4 word phrasses..

Although ranking will be achieved sooner for long tail phrases but it needs to be searchable too. If there is a ranking for the 3 to 4 word phrases keyword but with no traffic then what's the use of it. Keyword research needs to be properly done and try to focus more of 2 or 3 keyword phrases but which are searchable and traffic bringer.

well. It is worth to raise you site for long tail keywords, because surfers usually are more targeted for example: hosting. It is better to make them more targeted just like: european gpu hosting, cheap offshore hosting. This way you will get not more targeted visitos, but also it is easier to rank. 3-4 words are not counted as a spam, but they are worth to work on.

It depends on which niche you're targeting and how many searches each keyword is getting..
So, first analyze the competition and do research of monthly keyword searches. Then you can select which one would be more profitable for you.

Certainly long tails are easy to rank but the thing that matters the most is the competition for that particular keyword.
