    SSL makes website rank higher?

Hostgator sent this in their newsletter:

search engines now grant SSL-secured websites higher rankings!
Anyone can confirm this claim, does google on their blog or such claimed that SSL = higher ranking benefit?

I've read the same thing on another forum. But IMO I don't SSL does really matter. I've many sites and all are without SSL, even after the latest update my sites ranking goes up. So, it's all depend on the authority and quality of your site.

I never have seen this to be effective at all. One thing that I know is that people would likely visit your site if it has an SSL certificate.
