You bear the lost one or another way IMO. Reseller account is a cheap way to start. You can then setup own server anytime and redirect new account setups to it from within your billing system. Disadvantage of reseller account is that when there is some issue, you have to wait longer time to get reply from support staff, but on another hand, you do not need to work on it yourself and have all the knowledge to manage the server.
