I think that cloud hosting is based on dedicated servers (physical computers) which are joined together in local datacenter LAN or over internet. These servers contains special software which is directing communication and data transfers between machines. But better description of this would be if you search this on search engine: wikipedia cloud hosting

This is a cloud hosting definition from WHT:
Cloud hosting is a web hosting service delivered from a group of connected servers. ... be considered cloud hosting when it is delivered from a fully redundant, multi-server system

There are two types of cloud hosting, one is cloud vps hosting which is easily scalable and then there is private cloud which has cluster of servers and common storage to offer 100% uptime.

The cloud" is just another way of saying that you store your data on some server on the net.
It's 1960s technology that we fought hard to get away from back then.

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user. The term is generally used to describe data centers available to many users over the Internet.

Cloud hosting is more of a way that you configure servers, instead of an actual tangible thing, but with it being called “cloud” hosting that’s probably what you’ve come to expect.

Hosting services that are provided to customers via multiple connected servers that comprise a cloud, as opposed to being provided by a single server or virtual server.
