I got this error even after i deleted and again created e-mail account in cPanel.
It was fixed by going to the MX Entry section in cpanel and switching to "Local exchanger".
Other e-mail account in same cpanel (only other hosted domain) worked OK with "Automatically Detect Configuration (recommended)".
After i switched back to Auto detect config. problematic account continue working.
