If we are talking about remote access, then it probably doesn't matter where the server is locating.

We can speak about the regular brute-force attack, kernel and software vulnerabilities, SQL-injections and much more.

The only reason I can think about it's a network layer kind of attacks like ARP spoofing and man-in-the-middle kind of attacks. But I really believe that they can be used only if you host your own server at home and the 'hacker' is your roommate :)
