Hi,

do you know any lightweight simple to use media player and converter for linux?

player

so far i found "mplayer" (apt-get install mplayer)

to stream asf, play audio/video, one do command "mplayer yourmediafilepath"

plays most MPEG/VOB,
AVI, ASF/WMA/WMV, RM, QT/MOV/MP4, Ogg/OGM, MKV, VIVO, FLI, NuppelVideo,
yuv4mpeg, FILM and RoQ files, supported by many native and binary
codecs. You can watch VCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even
H.264 movies, too.

converter

to convert files, i found "pacpl" (perl audio converter), to install it do apt-get install pacpl lame ffmpeg

then to convert some file, do example "pacpl -to mp3 sourcefilepath"

supports AAC, AC3, AIFF, APE, AU, AVR, BONK,
CAF, CDR, FAP, FLA, FLAC, IRCAM, LA, LPAC, MAT, MAT4, MAT5, M4A, MMF,
MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, MPP, NIST, OFR, OFS, OGG, PAC, PAF, PVF, RA, RAM,
RAW, SD2, SF, SHN, SMP, SND, SPX, TTA, VOC, W64, WAV, WMA, and WV. It
can also convert audio from the following video extensions: RM, RV,
ASF, DivX, MPG, MKV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, OGM, QT, VCD, SVCD, M4V, NSV, NUV,
PSP, SMK, VOB, FLV, and WMV
