How to check if my internet connection (data) is encrypted?

Hi, please what is the most simple way to check whether data i send/receive to/from internet are encrypted?
Im trying to use proxy (http://internetlifeforum.com/linux-forums/1326-fastest-way-make-linux-socks-proxy/).
